BOARD MEMBER

Logan Schmidt

Logan Schmidt is honored to join the Formerly Incarcerated College Graduates Network as a board member, bringing nearly a decade of policy and advocacy experience rooted in a deep commitment to equitable access to education, employment, and housing.

Logan currently serves as the Seattle Government Affairs Manager at the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties (MBAKS), where he leads efforts to expand attainable housing opportunities across Seattle and the Puget Sound region. His policy work spans federal and local levels, with touchpoints across criminal-legal reform, housing and land use, immigration, and budget and appropriations — always centered on implementation, impact, and accountability.

Before joining MBAKS, Logan worked at KM Strategies Group, a social impact consulting firm that helps mission-driven organizations build fundraising strategies and better tell their stories. Prior to that, he worked for the Vera Institute of Justice’s Federal Policy team, where he was part of the coalition effort that federally reinstated Pell Grant eligibility to incarcerated students. Working alongside local, state, and federal justice reform organizations and formerly incarcerated advocates, that work helped open the doors of higher education to thousands of people behind bars.

Logan’s passion for this work took root while volunteering as a Teaching Assistant for Whitman College's Rhetoric & Incarceration course, taught in partnership with incarcerated men at the Washington State Penitentiary. That firsthand experience of working alongside incarcerated students continues to inform his belief that lasting change requires centering the voices of those closest to the problem. He is proud to bring that conviction to the FICGN board.
